What is pubic lice?

Pubic lice are caused by lice, which are very small parasitic insects that feed on human blood. Lice are transmitted through direct person-to-person contact or via objects. These parasites thrive in poor hygiene and sanitation conditions.

Pubic lice infest the skin and pubic hair and are transmitted through sexual contact. Symptoms include itching, pubic lice that may spread to the abdomen, chest, and beard, lice eggs, small sores, and irritation caused by the parasite’s bite or by scratching due to itching.

What is the treatment for pubic lice?

Head lice are treated with special lice-killing medications (pyrethrins and malathion), and it is recommended to repeat the treatment after one week to prevent recurrence.
