Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) is also an inflammation of the urethra, but it is caused by microorganisms other than the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae (which causes gonococcal urethritis). The most common pathogens causing NSU are Chlamydia trachomatis and Mycoplasma genitalium.

The symptoms of NGO are similar to those of gonococcal urethritis and include:
– A burning sensation during urination.
– Discharge from the urethra (usually clearer than in gonococcal urethritis).
– Frequent urination and discomfort in the urethral area.

Nongonococcal urethritis is also a sexually transmitted infection and requires antibiotic treatment. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to prevent complications such as infertility or pelvic inflammatory disease in women.
